Michigan Climate Action Network Urges State to Sign Clean Energy Bills

The Michigan Climate Action Network is calling on lawmakers sign more clean energy bills.

The Michigan Action Climate Network is asking the Michigan Legislature to pass more clean energy bills.  The network’s goal is to have the state completely running on renewable power by 2050.

Mike Berkowitz is the legislative director with the Sierra Club. He says one of the major blocks in the legislature is special interest groups wanting to repeal renewable energy standards.

“Largely being driven by the major utility companies in Michigan, DTE Energy and Consumer’s Energy, simply wanting to be able to control their own generational growth, but no being told exactly what they need to do or be mandated of something,” Berkowitz says.

Berkowitz says studies have shown that mandates are needed to help encourage steady growth of renewable power from energy companies.
