New Marygrove College President Says School Plays Unique Role in Detroit

Doctor Elizabeth Burns returns home to lead the Detroit college.

Marygrove College has a new president.  Doctor Elizabeth Burns is now in the school’s top spot.

She’s a graduate of Marion High School, received her Bachelor’s degree from Marygrove College, and earned her medical degree at the University of Michigan.

Burns spent much of her career as a physician specializing in family medicine.  But Marygrove is so much a part of her life that she came out of retirement to become the school’s Interim Provost in June.  Trustees appointed her president late last month.

Burns spoke with WDET’s Jerome Vaughn about the college and its role in Detroit.
