USS Milwaukee Stops in Detroit

Freedom-class littoral combat ship is in port on its way to the South China Sea.

A U.S. Navy ship is making a stop in Detroit this Thanksgiving. The USS Milwaukee is in port on its way to the South China Sea. Kyle Burleson is the Deputy Director of the Detroit/Wayne County Port Authority. He says it’s an opportunity to see a brand new ship in the U.S. fleet.

“It’s docked at our dock along the river walk however the Navy requires the river walk be fenced off. Anybody using the river walk will be rerouted around our building so you can see he vessel but you’re not going to be able to get on the dock or board it.”

Kyle Burleson, Deputy Director of the Detroit/Wayne County Port Authority

Burleson says the Milwaukee is a Freedom-class littoral combat ship, meaning it can operate close to shore. He says it’s a sister ship to the USS Detroit which will be commissioned next spring.
