Homeless Detroiters Get Backpacks Designed For Life On The Streets

New project offers thousands a safe, dry, portable pack

Thousands of Detroit’s homeless are getting backpacks made specifically for those living on the streets . The effort is part of a project called CityPak, a not-for-profit organization operated by well-known music promoter Ron Kaplan. He partnered with outdoor gear company Sierra Design and has distributed nearly 20,000 backpacks in places like Chicago, Boston, and New York City. Kaplan brought his mission to Detroit this month and spoke with WDET’s Amy Miller about what drives his passion to help.
