Some of the world’s best pilots took to the skies at Willow Run Airport this weekend for the annual Thunder Over Michigan air show.

Those best-of-the-best included the legendary Blue Angels stunt-flying fighter jet squadron and its tactical support aircraft, the huge propeller-and-jet powered C-130 Hercules plane known by the nickname “Fat Albert.”

Designed to drop troops and supplies in tight spaces, even Fat Albert put on a show with the Blue Angels.

And it featured a bit of history.

One of Fat Albert’s pilots, Capt. Katie Higgins, is the first female pilot to fly with the famed squadron.

She talked about it with WDET’s Quinn Klinefelter.
