Final Weekend for the Diego and Frida Exhibit

What was going on in Detroit when Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo were here?

The Detroit Institute of Arts hugely popular special exhibit called “Diego and Frida in Detroit” is coming to a close this weekend. Here’s how the DIA explains it: “Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo were an explosive couple. He carried a pistol. She carried a flask. He romanticized Detroit. She rejected it. But what they shared was a belief in communism, a thirst for tequila and a passion for each other. Discover how they left their mark on Detroit. And how Detroit left its mark on their art…..”

Before the exhibit comes to a close, Stephen speaks with Grace Raso, the director of a new documentary about the life of Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo during their time in Detroit. The two discuss the political dynamics and highlights of the arts community during that time period.
