A Tornado Probably Touched Down in Manchester

It looks like a twister damaged a few homes and farm equipment, but no one was hurt.

The National Weather Service will send someone to Washtenaw County Tuesday to confirm that a tornado touched down around 1:30 in the morning. It spawned from a line of severe thunderstorms that raced across Southeast Michigan late Monday night and early Tuesday. Manchester Township Fire Chief Mike Riesterer tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller the first reports of damage came in a few minutes after it hit. Two other likely tornadoes were reported in Tuscola and Sanilac counties Monday night. A confirmed EF-1 tornado damaged dozens of building in Portland, Michigan, about 30 miles northwest of Lansing. As of 9:00 am Tuesday, DTE Energy spokesman Scott Simons said about 30,000 customers had no power.
