DTE Energy Releases Vision for New Downtown Detroit Park

DTE Energy officials are planning to create a new greenspace near their downtown Detroit headquarters.

DTE Energy’s downtown campus is getting a new public park. Vice Chairman Dave Meador says the utility recently tore down a building on Grand River Avenue to make room for a new greenspace. Meador says he hopes to create an atmosphere similar to that of Campus Martius.

“There will be a building that will include a restaurant, but then a big open space, and that open space during the day—if there’s no programming at the park—could be a place where, you know, people kick a soccer ball or throw a Frisbee or walk a dog, but we are also working with the Downtown Detroit Partnership on programming.”

Meador says there will be a campaign later this summer to crowd-source a name for the park. He says he expects the space will open to the public by the end of the year.
