Marissa Gawel’s Quest To Chronicle Roadside Attractions

The world’s largest ball of paint is among the coveted destinations on this journey.

Memorial Day has passed, meaning the unofficial start of summer.  Many Michigan residents spent the weekend on a road trip.

WDET’s Marissa Gawel is no exception.  As part of a special project, she’s started a three-week long trip to find some of the Midwest’s strangest roadside attractions.

She spoke with WDET’s Jerome Vaughn about the journey to come.

The project is funded by  National Geographic’s Young Explorer Program.  You can follow Marissa’s journey at americanattraction.net.
