Detroit Officials Looking for Groups to Adopt City Parks

City officials need people to maintain and clean up 75 Detroit parks this summer.

Detroit officials want residents to maintain and care for 75 parks this summer. The Adopt-a-Park initiative involves volunteers like Erica Jordan–who says she cleared out a space on Weaver Street last year so neighbors would want to use it again.

“You see a lot of people going over there now, and they clean up after they leave. They call us sometimes, and say, ‘Um, hey, they had a party over there but it looks good.’”

Organizations adopting a park are required to mow grass and cut down weeds at least once every other week through October. The city will install a sign at each space, recognizing the group that’s taking care of the park.
