Detroit Wayne County Health Authority is Changing its Name and Scope

The Wayne County organization will now go as “Authority Health” to reflect its expanding work in the region.

The Detroit Wayne County Health Authority is changing its name to “Authority Health.” CEO Chris Allen says the new title better reflects the organization’s regional work. He says the name was first used by a program the agency started two years ago to bring more physicians to medically underserved areas.

“We have 82 residents that are rotating through various practice sites in the region. Why is that important? Because the data has shown that 43-percent of residents who train in a location will remain there and practice.”

Allen says the organization will still work in Wayne County, but is expanding its work to serve residents in Oakland and Macomb Counties. He says in a similar vein, Authority Health is planning to use regional population data to grow its services.
