The Detroit City Council is again delaying a vote on rezoning a property for a new Red Wings arena. Olympia Development officials are seeking to zone the land as a multi-purpose site, instead of one that only allows for general business. Councilman Scott Benson says the developers are taking extra time to ensure the plan is approved.

“Make sure that the maps are together, that there are properly identified boundaries. Making sure that our language is together. Making sure that it’s legally correct and we’re not doing anything improper, or something that could come back down the line.”

Benson says if the zoning is approved, Olympia Development will then be able to begin applying for construction permits. He says the City Council will vote on the rezoning proposal Monday.
