This Week’s Calendar

John Sinclair w/ Laith Al-Saadi, The Macpodz & Rootstand @ Blind Pig | Saturday, April 4th @ 8 PM Ann Arbor

Smoke signals tell us it’s Hash Bash in Ann Arbor this weekend. Weed culture runs deep in the diag on Saturday, as activists, growers, tokers, lawyers, cops, students and celebrities mingle from cloud to cloud. But all attention should be on the Blind Pig, where counter-culture icon John Sinclair will hold court with some of Ann Arbor’s best bands, including the ever-funky Macpodz and guitar hero Laith Al-Saadi.

NCAA Hoop City @ COBO Hall | Friday, April 3rd through Monday, April 6th

As March Madness comes to its zenith this weekend, wrapping up with the championship on Monday, young fans of all ages and basketball-loving families from around the region will have the opportunity to run, jump, shoot and play basketball until the final buzzer! We’re talkin’ basketball competitions, clinics, performances, photo-ops, prizes, autograph sessions, surprise appearances and more.

YUM Village Funding Dinner @ Bamboo Detroit | Friday, April 3rd at 5:30 PM Detroit

Michigan Funders and Bamboo Detroit are collaborating on a very special YumVillage dinner, hosting a causal conversation on crowdfunding and offering-up a special menu from the one and only Dr. Sushi. YUM reminds us that with new laws passed in Michigan, funds can now be raised through platforms like Michigan Funders, distributing equity to investors. Is this a good step for your business? Come learn, network, and enjoy Japanese-inspired cuisine created by Detroit’s famous Dr. Sushi.

Katoi @ Detroit City Distillery | Saturday, April 4th @ 6:30

On its way to a brick-and-mortar location, Katoi is poppin-up at Detroit City Distillery this Saturday with a menu that sounds pretty damn  delish. We’re talkin roasted beets with lime, honey and basil, as well as  chickpeas with charred thai eggplant and vinegar chilis, mushroom ramen, and lamb cheek noodles …. just to name a few. And of course, you can enjoy a fine cocktail or two.

Transit Happy Hour @ The Anchor Bar | Friday, April 3rd @ 5 PM

Transit fans (isn’t that everyone?)will convene on Detroit’s historic  Anchor Bar for an evening of drinks, “totchos”, and transit. The evening is a fundraiser to produce 15 Minutes or Better, a series of short videos that will showcase how effective public transit systems across the U.S. work and define what’s possible for public transit here in Metro Detroit. The silent auction includes a weekend for two at the Crowne Plaza Pontchartrain Detroit, a signed jersey from Detroit Lions linebacker Stephen Tulloch, a bike from Detroit Bikes, coffee from Chazzano Cafe and more!

The Kickstand Band w/ El Dee & Minihorse @ Majestric Cafe | Friday, April 4th @ Majestic Cafe

Two of the Detroit’s most poppin’ musicial acts — Kickstand Band and El Dee — are throwing down a gauntlet of musicality of the  indie-pop persuasion at the Majestic Cafe.  They have talent, they have hooks, they have looks and they’re oh so worthy of your hard earned dollars.

Take 6 @ Detroit Symphony Orchestra | Friday, April 3rd @ 7:30

Their music is rooted in gospel, doo-wop, scat, swing, and in their abiding faith. Take 6’s uplifting and soulful sound will move you!
