AAA Michigan says gas prices in the state are down 11 cents this week. That’ s the first drop Michigan has seen in six weeks.

Spokesperson Susan Hiltz says the average gas price is significantly lower than at this time last year.

“We’re a $1.49 less than this same time last year,” Hiltz says. “So last year this time in Metro Detroit we were paying $3.66 a gallon. And in Metro Detroit we are paying $2.29. So quite a big difference there. So sometimes it’s good to count your blessings when it comes to price of gas. So lower prices are good news for everybody.”

Hiltz says prices could rise as much as 20 cents more per gallon in March. She says the Flint area has the lowest gas price at $2.17 per gallon. The highest gas price is in Marquette at $2.49 per gallon.
