Kroger Closes in Flint

Kroger closes its doors in Flint

A Kroger in Flint is closing, leaving the city with only one major grocery store. Flint has lost two Krogers and a Meijer in the past eight months. City Council President Joshua Freeman says the Kroger closed after a decade of declining profits.

“You know I understand fully that, you know, businesses aren’t in business to lose money, they’re there to make a profit. So they said that they weren’t able to do that at that location.”

Freeman says he’s worried about residents’ access to fresh and healthy food. He says he’s meeting with the Mayor next week to strategize about how to bring more supermarkets to Flint.
