Volkswagen is recalling nearly 170,000 vehicles with diesel engines because of a defect that could cause vehicle fires. WDET’s Jerome Vaughn has more. SOQ
The recall affects some Volkswagen Jetta sedans and wagons from the 2009 through 2012 model years…as well as certain Volkswagen Golf hatchbacks and Audi A3s from model years 2010 through 2012. All of the recalled vehicles have diesel engines.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says certain stresses in a fuel injector line could produce cracks. Those cracks could allow fuel to spill, increasing the possibility of vehicle fires.
Volkswagen will inspect the fuel injector lines and install new ones if needed…free of charge. The automaker will also install vibration dampeners. Affected owners will be notified by mail, beginning next month.
