Detroit Tigers’ pitcher Justin Verlander has been named the American League’s “Most Valuable Player”.
He’s the first pitcher to receive the award since Dennis Eckersley in 1992.
During a conference call this afternoon (Mon)…Verlander said he wasn’t sure he had a chance to win.
“You want this. So don’t talk yourself out of it. Playing ping pong in my head really. And then just deciding – you know – fate’s already been written. The votes are already in. There’s nothing I can do about it now. Just sit back and wait. And when I got the phone call, I couldn’t believe that.”
Verlander won the American League’s Cy Young Award last week. His 24 victories led the major leagues this season.
