General Motors and the United Auto Workers appear to be making progress toward a new contract. The two sides talked until late Thursday night, and will pick up where they left off Friday morning. Until an agreement is reached, GM, Ford, and Chrysler workers are operating under the existing contracts that were supposed to expire this week. Chrysler C-E-O Sergio Marchionne wrote a letter expressing disappointment with UAW President Bob King for the way negotiations have gone so far. Professor Harley Shaiken teaches labor studies at the University of California. He talked with WDET’s Quinn Klinefelter about the that letter and other aspects of the negotiations.
