"I don't think anything is better than [playing live]just the emotion that goes into it, you're feeling the music go through you and then you're putting it out to the people."

A Detroit indie-rock band called The HandGrenades are poised for national success with their latest record, titled 52. They play Ferndale’s annual Pig and Whiskey festival this weekend. The HandGrenades recorded at WDET earlier this week.

Founding members Andrew Pawelski and Nick Chevillet tell WDET’s Travis Wright about the advice they have for up-and-coming bands.

The HandGrenades are Andrew Pawelski [vox, guitar, bass] Nick Chevillet [vox, guitar, bass] Jesse Shepherd-Bates [vox, guitar, bass, percussion] Joel Sanders [vox, keys, bass, percussion] Joby Kaslowski [drums].

The HandGrenades play the pig and Whiskey Festival in Ferndale on Saturday at 8 PM.

Special thanks to WDET’s Alex Trajano for engineering the session, as well as JC’s Custom Drums in Rochester Hills and the Music Castle in Royal Oak.
