May 23, 2014

Haleem “Stringz” Rasul is a dancer from Detroit who specializes in many styles of break-dancing, including a dance that originated in Detroit back in the '70s called the jit.

With help from the Knight Foundation and Movement Electronic Music Festival, Rasul made his foray into film-making with a documentary about The Jitterbugs, the troupe who pioneered the foot-work focused dance, which has evolved and still lives on dance floors in Detroit clubs today.

Rasul recalled his introduction to jitting when he spoke about his film with WDET’s Travis Wright.
