A new treatment could help diabetics who also have coronary artery disease. It’s a stent--a kind of tube--that can open blocked arteries. The Food and Drug Administration approved the device in March, according to Dr. Ron Caputo of St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse, New York. He was one of the researchers who took part in the clinical trials. He told WDET's Pat Batcheller that patients in Metro Detroit may benefit from the procedure right away.
