Where will the next pope come from? The nationality of the new pontiff could be a reflection of where the Roman Catholic Church is growing—mainly south of the Equator. Father John Staudenmaier taught the history of technology and the church at the University of Detroit-Mercy for many years. He’s now an assistant to the president of the university for mission and identity. He tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller that the time may have come for a pope who’s from the Southern Hemisphere.
