Space: What's Next After Shuttle?

The Space Shuttle Atlantis blasted off from Cape Canaveral Friday morning, carrying four astronauts to the International Space Station. The launch marks the final shuttle mission for NASA. But will it be the end of the U-S space program as we know it? Not according to John Schroer, the education coordinator for the Dassault Systemes Planetarium at the Detroit Science Center. He says Americans will return to space eventually, and will probably go beyond low-Earth orbit--perhaps even to Mars. WDET's Pat Batcheller spoke with Schroer about the future of human space flight, and what the shuttle program has advanced our knowledge of the universe.
