Last month’s tornado in Dexter was one of the earliest on record in Michigan and marked the start of severe weather season. This is severe weather awareness week statewide, and the National Weather Service wants people to know how to protect themselves and their property. Rich Pollman is the warning coordination meteorologist for the weather service office in White Lake. He says when a tornado warning is issued, don’t ignore it. He shared his safety tips with WDET's Pat Batcheller. Click on the audio link above to hear the conversation. The National Weather Service will conduct a statewide tornado drill through its radio stations around 1:00 Wednesday afternoon, so if you have a weather radio, make sure it’s set to receive the alert.
