Pugh: Takeover Not Inevitable

The Detroit City Council and Mayor Dave Bing met Tuesday to talk about the city's budget crisis. One topic being considered is a consent agreement with the state that would give city leaders broader budget-cutting powers without the need for an emergency financial manager. The two sides still have a number of differences over how to keep Detroit from running out of money early next year. Bing wants to lay off about 1,000 city workers. Council members are proposing twice as many job cuts. WDET's Pat Batcheller got an update on the budget crisis from Council President Charles Pugh. Click the audio link above to hear the conversation.
