Oakland University’s new medical school opens today. The William Beaumont School of Medicine is the first privately-funded med school in Michigan and the first to open in more than 40 years. Besides training the next generation of doctors, the goal of the school is to attract students from outside Michigan in the hopes they’ll stay after they graduate. WDET's Pat Batcheller spoke with the school’s dean, Dr. Robert Folberg. Click the audio link above to hear the conversation. Central Michigan University and Western Michigan University are also planning to open their own medical schools by 2014.
