The Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit is headed into the new year with a few fresh initiatives, such its Teen Arts Council. The group of 14 to 18 year-old artists, representing a number of mediums, will address cuts to arts programs in public schools by providing new opportunities to learn, create and collaborate. Artist and art educator Tylonn Sawyer was recently brought aboard to help launch the Teen Arts Council. He says the council is still in the process of being put together and candidates are still being considered. Sawyer tells WDET’s Travis Wright the youth program is made possible by support from some influential foundations.
