A version of the Excellence in Mental Health Act has been passed by the U.S. Senate. The measure calls for a pilot program in eight states that would improve mental health services. Senator Debbie Stabenow says the act will provide the most funding for community mental health in decades.

“I’m looking forward to working with Detroit Wayne County Authority and the other community efforts around Michigan, as well as with the state agencies involved, to do everything we can to have the very best proposal submitted to be one of the 8 states in this demonstration project.” - Senator Debbie Stabenow

Stabenow says improved services are still a few years away. She says once officials in Washington develop rules for the grant planning process, states can apply for funding.
