General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler all reported strong sales in March, especially among cars and trucks that get higher gas mileage. GM says it sold almost 2,300 Chevy Volts last month--the electric car's best month since it debuted in 2010. That's even as GM cut back on Volt production due to slow sales earlier this year. GM also saw a 62 percent increase in compact and subcompact sales in March. Chrysler sales were 34 percent higher than they were a year ago, fueled by demand for the 200 and 300 sedan, and the Fiat small car. Ford says its sales in March were up five percent, bolstered by a 65 percent increase in sales of the Ford Focus.
