It was a Detroit tradition. Every March, early in the month, Hamtramck hosted the nation’s largest festival of local music, The Blowout. But the Metro Times, which produces the festival, moved it to late April and expanded to the fest to include venues in Ferndale and Detroit.

Reaction within the Detroit music community has been split.

Musician Eugene Strobe is with a group that, in response (and in five, short weeks) has organized the inaugural Hamtramck Music Festival.

He tells WDET’s Travis Wright just how it came together.

That’s “Can You See in 3-D?” by Cosmic Light Shapes, featuring Travis's guest Eugene Strobe, who co-founded this weekend’s Hamtramck Music Festival.
