Officials in Hamtramck are struggling to balance public safety and financial distress, as the city's only two ambulances are currently out of commission. The Detroit Medical Center is providing EMS transportation for Hamtramck residents while officials wait to see if the city can afford to repair the vehicles. Some members of Hamtramck's fire union fear the DMC personnel means city firefighters could lose their jobs, but City Manager Kyle Tertzag tells WDET's Annamarie Sysling that public safety is the top priority.
