New interactive map highlights Great Lakes restoration success stories

“Eight hundred thousand jobs are dependent on industries that draw from the Great Lakes." - Andy Buchsbaum

A five year plan to restore the Great Lakes and clean water in the region ends next year. In order to show how much progress has been made, a new interactive map was created by Healing Our Waters-Great Lakes Coalition. The map shows how polluted lakes were prior to the plan, how much money was spent on cleaning wetlands, and what they look like now.

Andy Buchsbaum is the president of National Wildlife Federation’s Great Lakes Regional Center. He spoke to WDET’s Martina Guzman about creating the interactive map and how Michigan’s Lakes are an economic force.
