There’s no doubt war changes people, especially those sent to fight. As America commemorates Veterans Day, a local man has written a book about his father’s life as a soldier in World War Two and the challenges he faced when he returned home. It’s called “Defining Moments: A True Story of War, Family Conflict, and Reconciliation”. The author is Bob Dustman, a retired journalist who also worked as the chief spokesman for Oakland County Executive L-Brooks Patterson for almost 20 years. Dustman based the book on the letters his father wrote home while he was stationed in the South Pacific. WDET's Pat Batcheller asked Dustman how he found the letters, and why he felt compelled to write a book based on them. Dustman will be signing copies of the book from 1pm to 6pm on Sunday, November 13, at Rochester Community House. Click on the audio link above to hear the conversation.
