Duggan's First State of the City... And A Few More

Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2014

Since 1806 Detroit has had 66 different mayors -- a few of them were elected to office in non-consecutive terms. In any event, that's a lot of State of the City addresses.

Tonight at 7 p.m., Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan gives his first State of the City address. We'll carry it live -- 101.9 FM -- and afterward we'll have, in studio, WDET reporters Quinn Klinefelter and Travis Wright, WDET News Director Jerome Vaughn and former Detroit Councilman Nick Hood III for post-game analysis. Craig Fahle will live chat with our friends at the Free Press (information on that to be announced) and Next Chapter Detroit blogger Sandra Svoboda will live-tweet the address from @WDETSandra with a focus on bankruptcy.

Finally, find us on Twitter during the State of the City at @WDET. Use the hashtag #DetroitSotC.

So to get you hyped up for the State of the City, here are the last three from former Mayor Dave Bing. His addresses from 2013, 2012, and 2011. Additionally, but not embedded, is Kwame Kilpatrick's State of the City from 2008. Listen tonight and watch the last few below. What are the parallels?

We coudn't embed this one but if you want to watch former Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's 2008 State of the City address, go here.
