Could Private Funders Support Detroit's Light Rail?

Detroit business leaders say they want to move ahead with plans for a light rail system on Woodward between Downtown and the New Center.

Federal officials announced this week that they won’t fund such a system because Detroit doesn’t have the resources to maintain such a project. Federal funds will instead support a regional rapid bus system…if local politicians submit a plan.

Wayne State University Urban Studies Professor Robin Boyle says the region needs a better mass transit system. He spoke with WDET’s Jerome Vaughn.
