The APBA Gold Cup returns to the Detroit River this weekend. It's the 102nd running of the event, which is basically the Super Bowl of powerboat racing. The Detroit Yacht Club is the presenting sponsor of the Gold Cup. WDET's Pat Batcheller spoke with the event's director, Mark Weber, who says for death-defying thrills, nothing beats watching the hydroplanes skim across the surface of the river.

Practice runs start Friday, with the finals scheduled for Sunday. The weather forecast for the Gold Cup is sunny skies all weekend with highs in the upper 80s.
