Die-hard Tigers Fans Use Their Heads

The Tigers beat the Boston Red Sox 3-to-2 in their first game of the 2012 season at Comerica Park Thursday afternoon. 45,027 people bought tickets for the game, the largest Opening Day crowd since the ballpark opened 12 years ago. Opening Day always draws a lot of people downtown—it’s more than a game—it’s an event that brings out casual baseball fans and die-hards alike. Among the latter were Al Crawford of Sterling Heights and Mark Wejrandt of Goodrich. They go to a lot of Tiger games, and are easy to spot in their rubber baseball masks. Al Crawford says it’s a tradition they started when the Tigers weren’t so good and needed all the support they could get.
