
The mood was somber at the 2009 North American International Auto Show. General Motors and Chrysler were on the edge of extinction. Politicians scolded the automakers for asking the taxpayers to bail them out. Factories were closing. And the lavish displays that highlighted past auto shows were nowhere to be found at Cobo Center. Today, GM and Chrysler are alive and making money. And the mood heading into the 2012 Auto Show is as positive now as it was negative three years ago.
