Asian Carp DNA Found in the Maumee River & Bay

Environmental officials are growing more worried that Asian carp could get a foothold in the Great Lakes. The fish have a voracious appetite, and could starve out other species on the food chain. The latest sign that Asian carp are getting closer to the lakes came this week, when the Michigan DNR announced that traces of Asian carp DNA turned up in the Maumee River near Toledo. WDET’s Pat Batcheller spoke with Charley Wooley of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Wooley says it’s not clear whether Asian carp have actually made their way into the Great Lakes.
