Murder In Detroit--What Can Be Done?

Detroit Mayor Dave Bing said last week we have lost our respect for life. He was referring to the 386 criminal homicides committed in 2012, a 12 percent increase over the year before. And while the total number of crimes went down, it’s the rising number of murders that has everyone—the mayor, the police, and residents frustrated, and looking for answers. Andy Arena is the former head of the FBI office in Detroit, and is now the leader of the Detroit Crime Commission. WDET's Pat Batcheller talked with Arena about the Commission's mission, and what it's doing to reduce the homicide rate. Click on the audio link above to hear the conversation.
