Wayne State Admission Standards Approved

Wednesday, February 1, 2012

Changes to Wayne State University’s admission policies were approved unanimously today (Wed) by the schools Board of Governors. The new standards raise the bar for applicants in an effort to increase the university’s dismal graduation rate. Wayne State President Allan Gilmour says applicants will be judged on a broader criteria.

“We shouldn’t have arbitrary numerical numbers for grade point average and ACT test scores…that we should obviously take those into account but we should take a broader…what my colleges call a holistic look at each and every application.”

Gilmour says incoming freshmen who don’t immediately meet the new standards will be given an opportunity to take summer courses to prove their academic merit. He says the new admission policies will be fully implemented by the fall of 2013. Gilmour will be a guest on the Craig Fahle Show tomorrow morning (Thurs) at 10 on W-D-E-T.
