Water Main Break in Southwest Detroit Floods One Square Mile (Photo Gallery)

Above images were taken at Vinewood and West Grand Boulevard, a few blocks south of the main break.

A massive water main break near Buchanan and McKinley, in Southwest Detroit, just west of Interstate 96 and south of Warren Avenue, turned a nearly one mile square area into flood zone Tuesday morning. Streets filled with water, leaving some roads impassable and stranding motorists in several feet of water, including a Detroit Police officer.

Most of the water had been emptied from affected streets by 1 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. Work crews, which began arriving around 7 a.m. Tuesday morning, were still clearing streets and underpasses into the late afternoon.
