Theatre Bizarre coordinators are announcing on their official website that this year’s masquerade will take place at Detroit’s Masonic Temple on Saturday, October 22nd.

Called “the Initiation”, tickets will go on sale the weekend of September 17th.

Theatre Bizarre had been in operation about ten-years as an annual one-night only underground Halloween party in a neighborhood near the State Fairgrounds in Detroit until the city cited the organizers for numerous code violations last year. A last minute party was held in 2010 at the Fillmore. Theatre Bizarre organizers are still working with the City of Detroit to see what they can do to turn their illegal parties, which included a roller coaster and a Ferris wheel, built in a residential neighborhood, into a legitimate attraction.

Meanwhile, Theatre Bizarre co-creator John Dunivant was named a Kresge Arts Fellow earlier this year.
