August 27, 2012 --------------- A tropical storm is changing the face of this week’s Republican National Convention, and is also changing the lone star-turn by a representative from Michigan. Tropical Storm Isaac is expected to rain on the Republican parade in Tampa, Florida – and cause problems for the roughly 50,000 people attending the convention there. So the national party is suspending most of the first day of activities, including a speech by U.S. Representative Dan Benishek – the only national appearance by a Michigan lawmaker scheduled for the convention. The GOP will still briefly-but-officially open the convention and hold receptions and other get-togethers during the day. Despite being penalized for holding an early primary, all members of the state’s delegation will be seated – and in the front row of the convention floor – a likely nod to native son and presumed presidential nominee Mitt Romney.
