Last week Governor Rick Snyder signed legislation that moves Michigan’s Republican presidential primary from its originally-scheduled date to an earlier one, February 28th. In a statement the Republican Governor said the February time frame means the primary will be on the same date as other elections in the state, and save the expense of holding a separate primary vote. State Republicans say it may also make Michigan more of a player in the presidential nominating process. But WDET’s Quinn Klinefelter talked with the chief Communications Director for the Republican National Committee – Sean Spicer – who says Michigan will pay a penalty for violating party rules.
