President Obama Expected In Metro Detroit After State Of The Union

President Obama is scheduled to visit Metro Detroit this week to amplify remarks he’ll make during his State of the Union address. Presidents typically hit the road following their annual speech to Congress. But Mr. Obama has a very specific agenda this year. He’s scheduled to travel to five states – including Michigan – that could be key battlegrounds in his reelection campaign. He’ll be in Iowa, Arizona, Nevada and Colorado in the days after Tuesday's State of the Union address. He’s expected to spend Thursday night in Metro Detroit, before delivering a speech here on Friday. In 2008 the President won all of those states except Arizona. But he could face much closer races this time – particularly here in Michigan, where GOP candidate Mitt Romney is a native and where fellow challenger Newt Gingrich has often recited his view of how to fix the state’s economy.
