Poll Finds Support For Ballot Measures

September 17, 2012

A new poll finds Michigan voters supporting several controversial ballot issues – but not by very wide margins. The survey – conducted by the polling firm EPIC MRA – finds only narrow support for several high-profile ballot initiatives. A constitutional amendment to protect collective bargaining is favored by 48 percent of those surveyed – with 42 percent opposing it. A proposal that voters approve any international bridge or tunnel is supported by a margin of 47 percent to 44 percent. And 46 percent of those surveyed would repeal Michigan’s emergency manager law while 42 percent would continue it. Pollsters say the ballot issues eventual fate could be determined by whether President Obama or challenger Mitt Romney deliver significant numbers of their party’s faithful in November. Supporters of the President overwhelmingly favor the collective bargaining proposal and oppose the emergency manager law. The reverse is true for those backing Romney.
