Pioneering scientist and inventor Stan Ovshinsky has died at age 89 from prostate cancer. Among other innovations Ovshinsky created battery cells that power many of today’s laptop computers and cell phones, while aiding in the development of liquid crystal flat-screen televisions. University of California – Berkely labor analyst Harley Shaiken says he counted Ovshinsky as one of his closest friends and mentors.
