McCotter Launches Bid For Presidency

The field of contenders for the Republican presidential nomination is growing a bit more crowded. Michigan Congressman Thaddeus McCotter is launching a bid for the presidency. McCotter is known for quoting Led Zeppelin on the House floor and greeting Michigan native Mitt Romney by reminding him he opposed bailing-out the state’s signature auto industry. At least that’s how McCotter’s known in Michigan. But he says he can increase his national profile, and offset his rivals massive advantage in campaign fund-raising, by taking full advantage of social media. McCotter said, “The Republican Party is dealing with in essence its first social networking primary. The Democrats had theirs in 2008. But the reality is people are looking for a message.” McCotter said the economy is struggling in part because Wall Street has done too little with its federal bailout. A staunch supporter of Israel, he suggested de-funding the United Nations if it recognized Palestinian statehood.
