Gilbert Looks To Turn Frank Murphy Site Into Entertainment District

October 31, 2013

The real estate developer owned by businessman Dan Gilbert – Rock Ventures – is offering $50 million to buy the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice in Detroit and an unfinished county jail site, planning to turn them into a high-end entertainment and housing complex district. But members of the Wayne County Commission say they are skeptical because they heard a similar grand vision for the unfinished jail site. WDET’s Quinn Klinefelter was at the commission meeting where the project was unveiled and tells WDET’s Travis Wright the proposal paints a grand vision for Detroit’s downtown.
